Cricket clubs are going up!

Henshall Shropshire Cricket League Division Five champions Guilsfield have had their promotion confirmed, while Llanidloes can also look forward to a season in a higher division after a surprise nod.

Guilsfield pipped Column to the title on a dramatic final day of the season, and also landed three players - Allan Williams, David Williams and Steve Griffiths - in the league team of the year. Williams, the league’s top wicket taker, was also named the division’s player of the year.

But there was a welcome surprise too when next season’s leagues were unveiled over the weekend with Llanidloes going up from Division Six, despite finishing fourth, after their title tilt was impacted by Covid cancellations.

“We are very happy to know that we have been promoted to Shropshire Division 5,” the club stated. “We are aware that it will be a tough league but we are excited for the challenge ahead and also seeing everyone back at The Rec again to support us.”

Llanidloes had three players in the Division Six team of the year in Adrian Foulkes, William Denham and Rob Davies.
