Newtown bounced up to fifth place in the JD Cymru Premier yesterday in a game of yellow card madness.

Referee Bryn Markham-Jones brandished no less than 11 yellow cards including cautions for Newtown’s Assistant Manager Callum McKenzie and Penybont Manager Rhys Griffiths as the Robins won 3-1 at Latham Park.

Leading scorer Aaron Williams gave Newtowna 14th minute lead from the penalty spot after Nick Rushton had been upended and then Williams turned provider for Rushton to increase the olead on 39 minutes.

Penybont were still very much in the game though and Keane Watts raised their hopes with a 68th minute response before Rushton put the game to bed with his second goal after good work by Craig Williams.

Llanidloes went down 2-0 in a disappointing defeat at Llangefni in the JD Cumru North but Caersws enjoyed a 5-2 victory in the Lock Stock Ardal North East League at home to Corwen.

Neil Mitchell netted twice ands Will Thomas, Luke Mumford and Richard Davies were also on target for the Bluebirds.
