Newtown goalkeeper Dave Jones was hoping to celebrate his 300th game for the club in style – but things didn’t go to plan.
Jones was between the post for the 300th time in the Newtown jersey at Flint but found himself picking the ball out of the net four times as the North Walians stormed home 4-1 – despite being down to 10 men for nearly a third of the game.
Flint have got their JHD Cymru League programme off to a great start and sit just a point behind leaders The New Saints so Robins boss Chris Hughes was expecting a tough afternoon, though not this tough.
Callum Anthony had Flint’s in the lead as early as the sixth minute and Jack Kenny and Mike Wilde added more goals before the break.
Liufumpa Mwandwe gave Robins fans some home of a fightback on 59 minutes and when Wilde was red carded on 62 minutes hopes were raised. But Ben Maher ended those hopes with a 78th minute strike to send Dave Jones and his colleague home empty handed.
