Newtown put brave Berriew out of cup

05/09/2021 @ 10:33

Berriew put up a brave fight against Newtown in the FAW Welsh Cup but went down 6-1 at Latham Park.

The Robins started strongly and led 3-0 at the break through James Davies, Jordan Evans and Jamie Breese.

Sam Evans rattled a post early in the second half to give Newtown a warning and substitute Jack Williams gave Berriew a glimmer of hope when he reduced the scoring.

But the Robins brough on leading scorer Arron Williams and he added a quickfire hat-trick to see the Welsh Premier League side home safely.

Llanidloes were dreaming of a Welsh Cup run when they led Bangor City 1-0 at half time but were taken apart by the Citizens in the second half, losing 4-1.

Substitute Jones gave the Daffs a 14th minute lead but second half strikes from Mello and Isla Cacciavilani, Carty and Zicarelli saw the day end in disappointment for the home side.

Guilsfied saw off the challenge of Llandudno Albion in the FAW Welsh Cup despite a late scare.

The Villagers raced into a four goal lead with goals from Jenkins, Cook, Hyne and Matthews before Maddock gave the North Walians a glimmer of hope with a reply.

And when Matthews restored Guilsfield’s advantage from the penalty spot it looked all over but Llandudno finished in style with goals from Maddock and Smith to see the game end 5-3.

There was cup agony for Llanrhaeadr who conceded two injury time goals at home to Saltney to lose 5-3.
