Newtown suffered at the hands of The New Saints in their opening Cymru Premier league game at Latham Park yesterday (Sunday).
The New Saints had flown back from Europe following their heroics but displayed little signs of any disappointment with a performance that suggested they have their sights firmly on regaining their grip on the championship with a 4-1 win.
Ben Clark netted a first half goal for The New Saints but Newtown stayed in the game with an equaliser before half time through a debut goal from Aaroin Williams, who joined the Robins from Telford.
But Declan McManus, who scored six goals in six European outings for the Saints in the summer, opened his league account four minutes into the second period. And Blaine Hudson made it 3-1 four minutes later.
Jordan Williams scored on his league debut to make it four in the final quarter of the game.
