Knight’s new dawn at Forden

Forden are back! And the man who has been charged with reigniting the village side has already made his fair share of headlines this summer.

Adam Knight stepped down from the Welshpool Town job a fortnight back, just a month after moving up to the first team following a successful season in charge of the reserves.

But the young manager has today revealed the burden of taking on one of local football’s toughest jobs after claiming he could not sleep for a fortnight, and eventually deciding enough was enough.

“It was a lot tougher than I could have imagined when I took the job,” said Knight. “I couldn’t get players to commit and the lads who said they would let me down last minute. I hadn’t slept properly in two weeks and was off work because of it so I decided it was just not worth it.”

Knight proved his amateur league managerial credentials last season by leading Welshpool’s reserve side to the division two title, and it was player power that persuaded him to make an immediate return to management.

“Forden was never a part of my decision to finish at Town,” he insisted. “After I resigned, the lads who played for me suggested that I should take the team we had from last year and try and get Forden back up and running so it’s gone from there.”

Forden will start as immediate favourites for the Division Two title after Knight retained the bulk of his Welshpool championship team with the addition of a couple of more players.

“I hope that with the squad I’ve got, we can go up in my first two seasons and get the team to the Spar as quickly as possible. Hopefully too we’ll get the locals behind the team by coming down to watch.”

Meanwhile, Two goals from Ross Frame helped Llanfair United beat Waterloo Rovers 4-2 last night in a pre-season friendly. Caersws were held to a 1-1 draw with Rhayader with Rob Evans on the scoresheet again.
