Newtown’s attack ripped through Alberbury to secure an impressive seven-wicket win in the Henshalls Division One, in one of the few games to beat the weather.
Tom Anderson, Joe Monk and Sam Cooke took three wickets each as Alberbury were dismissed for just 51, allowing the batsmen to ease them home in the 18th over.
Welshpool were set a target rate of four-an-over as visitors Wem II posted 140-5 from their 35 overs in Division Three.
For once though, Welshpool struggled for runs in reply with only Paul Chapman (15) reaching double digits as their response crumbled to 58 all out.
It was a low scoring Division Five affair at the LHG Oval where Guilsfield & Llandrinio had Rhodri Davies (29no) to thank for helping them through to a first innings total of 95 to defend against Willey II.
The visitors’ response was steady before Dave Williams took 5-7 to rip through the middle order, with Rupert Shingler (2-4) mopping up the tail for an unlikely 15-run victory that places the villagers on top of the league.
In Division Six, Rob Yewdall top scored with 42 as Montgomery II posted 155-9 for Pontesbury II to chase. It proved too much as William Kinsey (3-27) lead the charge to restrict the visitors to 137-9.
The rest of the fixtures were cancelled.
