Newtown narrowed the gap in the chase for a European play-off place by crushing Haverfordwest 5-1 at Latham Park.

The Robins trailed Haverfordwest by eight points going into the game but led 3-0 at half time and never looked back to narrow the gap to five points.

Tyrone Ofori gave Newtown the lead on 25 minutes which was doubled four minutes later by Lufimpa Mwandwe and increased to 3-0 before the break by Shane Sutton.

Mwandwe scored a brilliant solo goal on 55 minutes to make it 4-0 but his goal was eclipsed by Haverfordwest’s Cory Shepherd who netted a spectacular goal from just inside the Newtown half over the head of the stranded home keeper Dave Jones.

Jordan Evans added a fifth for the Robins who on this form are starting to look good for the play-off places.

Newtown: Jones, McAllister (Evans 70), Mills-Evans, Davies, Williams, Ofori (Breese 73), Hughes (Downs 83), Sutton, Fletcher (Edwards 83), Mwandwe (Rushton 73), Roberts. Sub: Steventon
