Local cricket clubs have been told by the Shropshire League to plan for a late-April start, as normal, but to be prepared for a delay should Covid-19 still pose a threat.
The news has been welcomed by local clubs who can start preparing their ‘squares’ in the hope that the vaccination programme will accelerate the decline in virus numbers.
Montgomery is one club already planning after holding a successful annual meeting with a new second XI captain appointed.
Tom Corfield takes the reins from Dave Jones, and follows in his father, George’s footsteps who was also a previous skipper.
“Looking at the provisional league structure for 2021 which places us in Division 6, my first thought was that we should aim to challenge at the top of the table and hopefully get us back to Division 5 again,” he said.
“We’ll have to be on top of our game though, as we’ll surely come up against some strong sides.”
During the meeting, members were told that the club is in good financial health going forward, despite the pandemic, with a new outfield mower purchased.
