Newtown suffer at Shelton

Newtown won’t be forgetting the name Griffiths in a hurry after slumping to a three-wicket defeat at Shelton in the Marston’s Premier League.

Put into bat by their hosts, Newtown were whittled out for 127 with Steve, Sam and Ross Griffiths sharing nine wickets between them.

Steve Griffiths was the chief destroyer with 6-59 off his 16 overs as Newtown failed to get to grips with some accurate and effective bowling. Ricky Davies (34) and Steve Davies (30) made a decent effort to put runs on the board but seven players finished on single figures.

In reply, the Newtown attack made a fight of it and frustrated the Shelton charge but Manrich Kotze remained unbeaten on 51 to see them home for the loss of seven wickets. Dave Anthony (pictured batting) impressed with figures of 5-43 for Newtown.
