Cash lifeline for local football clubs

22/11/2020 @ 09:13
Newtown FC is among 44 of the Cymru League football clubs to receive funding to help them through the coronavirus pandemic.

A £750,000 package has been jointly established by the FAW and the National Lottery and facilitated by the UK Government.

It will see clubs in the JD Cymru Premier, JD Cymru North and the JD Cymru South receive funding while matches continue to be played behind closed doors.

In Montgomeryshire, the clubs that will receive the funding include The New Saints FC, Newtown AFC, Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant FC and Guilsfield.

Welcoming the news, Craig Williams MP said: “This financial package is brilliant news and recognises the essential role that Cymru Leagues clubs play beyond match-day.

"Football clubs and training facilities across Montgomeryshire are often at the heart of their communities.

"They act as central hubs that give further opportunities for children and adults to be active, whilst bringing a source of pride and community spirit to their towns and villages.

“I am very grateful to the Secretary of State for Wales Simon Hart for his role in bringing the FAW and The National Lottery together in delivering this vital support for our clubs, and very much hope that it will enable clubs to keep going until fans can safely return to grounds.”
