Robins pegged back twice

Newtown manager Chris Hughes missed his side’s JD Cymru League draw at Haverfordwest due to a family Covid-19 scare and would have been a disappointed TV viewer as the Robins twice lost the lead.

The Robins were looking for their first points after a disappointing brace of defeats and twice looked to have the spoils in the bag, only for the South Wales side to peg them back.

They went ahead on 33 minutes, making the most of Jake Phillips’ famous long throw. There was confusion in the home defence and Nick Rushton popped up to head the ball home.

Haverfordwest were more positive after the break and were soon level when Danny Williams netted from the penalty spot after a handling offence by Phillips was spotted by the referee.

Another Phillips long throw led to Newtown regaining the lead through Mills-Evans but Danny Williams netted his second to earn the home side a share of the spoils.
