Huw staying at ‘bigger club’ Druids

HUW Griffiths (right) has snubbed crisis club Newtown to stay as manager of Cefn Druids.

The former Welshpool Town chief had been approached by the Robins but, after speaking to the Druids' chairman and vice-chairman, he concluded that it was in his best interests to remain at The Rock which he described as a “bigger club”.

He said: "I was pleased with what the Vice-Chairman and Chairman had to say. They spoke a lot of sense. Newtown is a fantastic club, and I had good times there when I played for them. But I think Druids is a bigger club and has the potential to be better."

Griffiths added: "We have got a fantastic team, with several of them still in the developmental stage. I think we are on the verge of something big at the club.

"I believe we can compete at the top of this league and push to be at least mid-table in the Welsh Premier League.

"At this moment of my career I feel there is still a job to be done at Cefn Druids. I have the backing of the board and am pleased to be staying.

"Now it is a case of getting on with it and preparing for the new season."

Newtown was plunged into chaos this weekend after newly appointed Darren Ryan joined Northwich Victoria as assistant boss just a fortnight after Andy Cale quit as manager.
