Robins in crisis as Ryan flees nest

Newtown Football Club is in crisis today following the shock resignation of manager Darren Ryan - just 17 days after his return to Latham Park.
The 38-year-old parted company with the Robins just over a week before the start of last season to be replaced by former Rhyl and The New Saints' chief Andy Cale, but has left again to take up the post of assistant manager at Northwich Victoria.
Ryan was appointed to the Latham Park hotseat on June 1 after Cale and his assistant Lee Williams quit the Robins following a reduction in the playing budget.
The squad returned to training today with assistant Peter Carter taking charge in Ryan's absence as the Newtown board prepares to meet this Thursday night to consider an urgent replacement.
A former Football League winger who made 57 appearances for Shrewsbury Town, Chester City, Stockport County and Rochdale, Ryan scored 43 goals from 164 league appearances for Barry Town, TNS, Carmarthen Town, Haverfordwest County, Cardiff Grange Quins and Newtown.
He has also played for Merthyr Tydfil and Newport County and was awarded his Uefa A badge in November 2009.
Ryan was appointed manager of Airbus UK Broughton in March, with Craig Harrison assuming the role of director of football to meet the European licence criteria, but left The AIrfield with the Wingmakers' blessing to take-over again at Newtown.
