Apart from a handful of matches, February was a month to forget for the local football scene, but there is optimism that we may see a full programme this weekend.

Storm ravaged Montgomeryshire has been cleaning up this week with the grounds teams, many of them individuals, working overtime to get the local pitches ready.

Newtown will head to Caernarfon for a JD Cymru Premier tonight looking to bounce back from their heavy defeat to TNS last week, while the second tier clubs all head north.

There are some intriguing quarter-final ties in the Central Wales Cup with Berriew welcoming Brecon Corries, amateur league club Bishop’s Castle taking on Builth Wells and Welshpool Town entertaining Penrhyncoch.

The ongoing referee shortage has impacted the Montgomeryshire Amateur League, so check with your club before travelling.
