COBRA given full WRU status

10/06/2011 @ 06:44

A year after being snubbed full membership to the Welsh Rugby Union, COBRA RFC has been given full WRU status.

The news was broken at the end of season dinner and comes after the club had invested over £250,000 on upgrading its ground to meet the standards which will now allow it to access key funding.

Last year it was turned down which drew a strong reaction from the club who told the BBC at the time that it was "discriminatory" and "totally unjust".

But its patience has now paid off with COBRA and Bro Ffestiniog welcomed to the full WRU family from North Wales.

Cobra was founded in 1978 and is based around the town of Llanfair Caereinion with its clubhouse and pitch located nearby in Meifod.

Over the last three decades it has progressed from a small district club playing matches on a farmer's field to competing in WRU division two north and is now regarded as one of Mid Wales' top clubs. This year they finish fourth.
