Llanidloes looking for a lift

17/01/2020 @ 09:39

There is plenty on the line this weekend for local rugby clubs desperate to pick up points as the season enters a crucial stage, writes Gary Williams from Oval Zone Rugby.

Llanidloes have the chance to move off the bottom of the table when they travel north to take on Bangor, a team just one place above them in Division Two (North).

Llani have been so close to picking up some valuable wins in recent weeks, losing their last two games, both at home, by five points and two points. If the Cae Hafren boys can get their full squad to travel, there's every possibility of a win for the visitors.

For Newtown, it's a week off as they are the odd one out in the league fixtures and they will look to use this breathing space to put in some extra work as they prepare for the visit of league leaders, Rhyl, next weekend.

Welshpool travel north to Colwyn Bay this weekend looking to pick up some valuable away points, but Bay are on a fine run of form, winning their last three games by a couple of points in each.

Sitting two places above Pool in Division Two (North), coach Dai Roberts will be targeting this game as one that his side, on their day, are more than capable of winning to close the gap on their seaside rivals.

Pleased with his team's attitude and spirit in last week's win against Abergele, Roberts will be looking for more of the same in what should be a close encounter.

COBRA, without a game last week because of a waterlogged pitch at Nant Conwy, have the chance to pick up some points at home against a Bethesda side who have lost their last two games, albeit against formidable opposition in Bala and Llandudno.

The visitors will be looking to get themselves back in the title race but COBRA are well capable of causing an upset. Unfortunately for the hosts, their talisman Jack Jukes has been ruled out for the rest of the season and will be sorely missed.
