FAW overrule decision

02/06/2011 @ 01:06

Football minnows Llanrhaeadr will take their place among the big clubs of North Wales football next season after the Football Association of Wales (FAW) overturned a controversial league decision.

The villagers were delivered a massive blow after winning the Spar Division One League title by being told their facilities were not good enough to play in the Huws Gray Alliance for the first time in their history.

But the dream is back on track after mywelshpool was tipped off that the FAW intervened last night and overturned the decision.

The club has been informed unofficially and is believed to be ecstatic. It can now plan for its first campaign in the highest division in Mid and North Wales football.

The row started following an end of season pitch inspection by Alliance officials who decided that Llanrhaeadr’s ground was not suitable, flagging up the fact that they did not have enough covered spectator areas.

However, the club took a picture of fans standing under their pavilion which, they claim, can accommodate more than the required number. It is believed that the photograph was a decisive factor in last night’s appeal.

But one club’s gain is another club’s pain as Berriew will now have to face up to life for a second season in the Spar Mid Wales League. They would have been allowed to go up as runners-up had Llanrhaeadr not been successful.
