Ryan back as Robins boss

Newtown AFC has appointed Darren Ryan as their new manager.

The Oswestry based coach will be returning to duties at Mid Wales Leisure Latham Park after a year’s absence. Currently completing his Pro-Licence course, Ryan said he is looking forward to working with the Board and will be meeting with a sub-committee tomorrow (Thursday).

A Club statement said: “He will be completely accustomed to the budget the board is making available this season and will be quickly contacting players to advise that the bleak picture painted by some is a good deal brighter and can easily service a competent squad of Premier League players.

“Darren has already been in contact with his new Assistant, Peter Carter, and the two will be meeting very shortly to prepare a squad for the new season, including pre-season friendlies.”

The statement continued: “The club has had a range of invitations from clubs, but will be tackling the whole question of pre-season games very shortly.”

It is understood Ryan will be making a late bid to try to tempt a Wolverhampton Wanderers squad to visit Newtown just before the start of the season, using his new contacts where he is installed as an Academy coach with the premiership outfit.
