Shock defeat for Newtown

Newtown suffered a shock defeat in the quarter final of the Nathaniel MG Cup at Latham Park tonight – beaten on penalties by STM Sports.

The Robins were expected to make short work of the South Walians who arrived late for the tie leading to a delayed kick-off.

But STM Sports started the brighter and led after five minutes through Ahum and it was not until the 34^th minute that Rushton levels the scoring.

On the hour Bateman restored the visitors’ lead from the penalty spot after Mills-Evans handled before Kenton quickly made it level again.

Two players were red carded in a final-whistle scuffle before the Robins went down 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out.
