Penalties drama as Monty seal treble

 

 

Montgomery sent a clear message to the Spar Division One last night that they intend to be one of the league’s top dogs next season.

 

The Division Two champions retained their Montgomeryshire Cup crown last night after penalties were required to separate them from recently crowned Division One kings Llanrhaeadr.

 

There was little between the two in 120 minutes of an entertaining match which saw Luke Tanner’s first minute strike for Monty cancelled out in the second half by Simon Edwards.

 

Llan were without striker Ben White for the extra time after he saw red for lashing out late in the game but neither side could find a breakthrough.

 

Even the penalty shoot-out went right to the wire but young full back Joe Vaughan, who has enjoyed an exceptional season, missed his spot kick as Montgomery secured their third trophy of a memorable season.
