Wales darts captain Mark Layton has won an unprecedented fourth Newtown Premier League darts title.

Layton played some outstanding darts throughout the finals night and in his first match defeated Chris Hurds 4-1, averaging 30.71 in the process.

He faced reigning champion, Gareth Ashley, in the semi-final and the game did not disappoint with Ashley defeated despite hitting an astonishing 31.16 average. The match consisted of four maximum scores, but it was Layton who went through 4-2.

Steve Price also had a fantastic night hitting top form and defeating Premier League debutant James Bradford 4-2. Price then faced former Premier League champion Mitch Butler in the semi-finals and it was Price who came out on top hitting a 25.69 average to win 4-2.

The final promised to be a high class encounter between Price and Layton but it was Layton who was quick off the blocks winning the first leg in 16 darts and the second in 17.

Another 16-dart leg witnessed saw Layton surge into a 3-0 lead, and he rounded the game off in style 19-dart and 14-dart legs to win 5-0 for his fifth title.
