Montgomeryshire Cup mayhem

23/05/2011 @ 04:08

The once-great but now much maligned Montgomeryshire Cup has taken another credibility blow after Caersws pulled out of tonight’s semi final.

The Bluebirds were due to face Llanrhaeadr at Berriew but the Spar Division One champions have been given a walkthrough to Friday’s final after the competition’s most successful club withdrew. Tomorrow night’s semi final between Carno and Montgomery is also believed to be in doubt.

“The match has just come a bit late in the season for us,” said Caersws manager Mike Evans. “We have lads with exams, injuries and holidays so felt it best to withdraw which is a pity.

“The competition has lost a lot of its credibility so hopefully next season some games will be played earlier in the season and we can all look forward to it again.”

Tomorrow night at Berriew, Montgomery are due to face Carno with a 7.30pm kick off and Monty manager Clive McNamee said that so far he was not informed that the game would be cancelled.
