Robins go down fighting

11/09/2019 @ 08:04

Newtown went down 2-1 to reigning champions The New Saints in the JD Cymru Premier last night despite a brave second half display.

First-half goals from Ryan Brobbel and Dean Ebbe had Scott Ruscoe’s side cruising at the break, but Joe Kenton found the back of the net with 15 minutes to go to give The Robins side a lifeline.

A first half free kick from Ryan Brobbel and a second from Dean Ebbe gave The New Saints a comfortable 2-0 halftime cushion but Newtown staged a late onslaught after Dean Ebbe pulled one back with a shot that went in via a post.

With their tails up following the goal, Chris Hughes’s side went for an equalier with Neil Mitchell firing wide from the edge of the area, before Joe Kenton saw a header cleared off the line by Chris Marriott. But the home side held on to go top of the table.
