It was the first full weekend of fixtures for the new football season with a mixed bag of results for the senior teams in the area.
Newtown launched their JD Cymru Premier campaign with a goalless draw at home to Cefn Druids on Friday night, despite having the chances to edge a win.
In the JD Cymru North, a penalty right on half time saw Guilsfield go down 1-0 at Prestatyn while Llanfair United shared the spoils with Ruthin Town. Llanrhaeadr fell at home to Mid Wales rivals Penrhyncoch.
It was a 1-1 stalemate in the MMP Mid Wales League’s big match between Builth Wells and Llanidloes, while Welshpool Town were held at Hay St Marys and there were 2-2 draws between Four Crosses and Carno and Kerry and Montgomery.
Forden United suffered a heavy defeat at home to Machynlleth in Division Two but Abermule picked up a 5-3 win over Presteigne.
The Montgomeryshire Amateur League kicked off with wins for champions Guilsfield Reserves and title hopefuls Bishop’s Castle. Welshpool Town Reserves edged Waterloo Reserves 1-0 on Friday night in Division Two.
