Newtown’s pre-season Welsh Premier League build-up suffered a setback with a 2-0 defeat at Stafford Rangers.
An even first half produced little in the way of scoring opportunities until Dave Jones was forced into late action to deny Even Garnett.
But the Robins were under the cosh after the break and some -slack defensive play allowed Theo Bailey-Jones to open the scoring from a tight angle.
Newtown rallied briefly after this, as Lewis King pulled off a fine save from close range, Nick Rushton fired over after a neat pull back, then Sam Phillips shot over from a near post corner. Haworth then had a free kick saved before the second goal arrived.
Max Dixon broke down the right channel and lofted a pass to the back post where the unfortunate Craig Williams (pictured) turned the ball past Jones.
The Robins conclude pre-season at home to Sutton Coldfield on Saturday (ko 2-30pm).
