All-rounder Tom Anderson struck an unbeaten 85 to inspire Newtown to a well-earned win over Ellesmere in Division One.

Anderson came to the crease with Newtown in trouble, but pieced together an impressive innings to see them through to 204-8 against bottom side Ellesmere.

Craig Davies then stole the bowling show, coming in as a late change to take 4-7 and whittling the visitors out for just 115.

There were Division Two defeats for both Welshpool and Montgomery despite both sides setting scores approaching 200.

Welshpool made 190-9 with Russell Cadwallader (54) and Chris Proctor (31) leading the way, but they remain bottom after Albrighton secured victory for the loss of seven wickets with an over to spare.

Andrew Barker (44) top scored as Montgomery posted 196-6 for Sentinel to hunt down. It proved comfortable for the visitors who secured a six-wicket win with three overs in reserve.

The second string also tasted defeat at Alberbury II in Division Five. After being set a target of 217-7, Montgomery II finished well short on 107.

Newtown II had a good go at chasing Whitchurch II’s 247, but ended on 210 despite a strong mid-order charge from Matt Humphreys (56) and Danny Foulkes (50).

Guilsfield captain Dave Lewis smashed an imperious unbeaten 115 to put his side’s promotion bid back on track in Division Six.

After two defeats, Guilsfield travelled to Corvedale without key men, but the side came together to set a monster 291-6 with Lewis supported by Jordan Evans (36), Duncan Todd (34) and Allan Williams (31no).

Tight early bowling gave Guilsfield the chance to try several bowlers, with Corvedale falling short on 172-6.

All good things come to an end, with Llanidloes unable to keep their unbeaten run going in Division Seven.

After being dismissed by title rivals Coton Hall for 118, the visitors stuttered home for a three-wicket win in the 37th over with Adrian Foulkes taking 3-19.

Welshpool II were beaten in Division Eight after being unable to top Beacon II’s 170-6.
