Three-time Newtown Premier League Champion, Mark Layton, has bounced back to form to take the lead for the new season.
On a night of high quality darts, Layton won both his matches by beating Will Wheatley 4-2, despite a spirited display from Wheatley who missed valuable doubles. He was more convincing in his second match, defeating Steve Price 4-0 and hitting a 29-dart average in the process.
Highest average of the night though went to Mitch Butler who recorded a splendid 30.36 in beating Martin Rees 4-0.
Highest checkout was a spectacular 167 by Sean Barnett in his 4-1 victory over Nathan Dobson.
David Boyle got his fourth point in beating Katie Bellerby 4-2, with missed doubles costing Bellerby dearly.
Gareth Ashley maintained his unbeaten run thanks partly to missed opportunities by Jamie Kynaston, with Ashley eventually winning 4-2. Ashley also beat Adam Joseph 4-0 in a top class encounter with faultless finishing seeing him through.
Rob Shingler defeated Price 4-2 and then also drew on the night with Butler.
