Llanidloes took another huge step towards the Mid Wales League championship last night with a 2-1 win at Aberaeron but Newtown suffered another defeat in the Welsh Premier League.

The Daffs scored a second half winner through Gareth Owen after Aberaeron had a goal disallowed and were hanging on for the win when Dewi Allen was red carded in injury time. The referee played 10 minutes extra but Huw Clarke’s side held on.

Llanfair and Berriew look to close the gap when they clash at Mount Field today. Berriew are three points behind with a game in hand while Llanfair are four points adrift with two games in hand.

Newtown crashed to their third home league defeat of the season after Bala Town came back from 2-1 down to win 2-3 on Good Friday.

Two goals from Bala’s Chris Venables and another from Mike Hayes were enough for the Lakesiders to take home the three points. Newtown’s Steve Leslie and Nick Rushton found the net in the first half.

With one game to go in the Welsh Premier League, Newtown remain in fourth place two points ahead of Bala. The Robins’ final match of the Welsh Premier League campaign is away to Barry Town United at Jenner Park on Friday night (KO 7:45pm).

Carno lost 3-2 to Builth Wells in the Mid Wales League Cup semi-final.
