Saturday’s matches in the MMP Mid Wales League followed the script to set up a nail biting final fortnight with just three points separating the top four sides.
Caersws and Berriew secured 1-0 away wins to increase the pressure on leaders Llanidloes Town and current favourites Llanfair United ahead of a big week for all four clubs.
Newtown’s disappointing end of season form continued with a 4-1 defeat at Caernarfon Town on Friday night, a defeat that saw them slip to fifth in the JD Welsh Premier.
Meanwhile, there were celebrations for both of our local Huws Gray Alliance sides with Llanrhaeadr securing their league status and Guilsfield guaranteeing a top six finish.
Guilsfield’s third win in a week came with the help of several reserve team players stepping up to the plate at Porthmadog, who are second in the league. Luke Francis and Danny Barton did the damage in the first half.
Despite going down 3-1 at Denbigh, Llanrhaeadr will be in the Huws Gray Alliance next season, completing a memorable campaign for the village club that will be returning ‘home’ next season with two new stands meeting the league’s criteria for seating capacity.
