Bluebirds win thrilling final

Caersws claimed through fourth Central Wales Cup last night following a stunning seven-goal stormer against Llansantffraid Village.

The Latham Park final was reported as being a thriller with the scores 3-3 after just 33 minutes of play!

But it was Caersws, the Huws Gray Alliance fifth placed spot, that clunched the decisive fourth late in the game to break Saints hearts.

Caersws opened the scoring on nine minutes when Neil Mitchell cut in from the left and curled the ball into the net and on 18 minutes. Caersws doubled their lead when Richie Evans corner was put into his own net by an unfortunate defender.

But the game took an immediate twist four minutes later when a disorganised Bluebirds defence was unable to clear its lines and the arrears were reduced. And the underdogs drew level with a minute Llansantffraid's speedy attacks caused Caersws problems and the leveller came following another goalmouth scramble.

And the Saints continued their dream 10-minute spell by taking a deserved 3-2 lead on the half hour. Nathan Prodger then almost added a fourth before the Bluebirds were able to reorganise and Graham Evans (right) equalised from the penalty spot after Scott Williams was upended.

The second half saw Caersws tighten up and chances became scarce. The Saints had the chance to retake the lead but a 75th minute penalty cleared the bar to set up a grandstand finish.

With five minutes to go, Evans floated in a free kick which was headed back accross goal at the back post finding Mark Griffiths who looped a header back into the net to seal a hard-earned Caersws victory.
