Montgmery clinch Spar title

Montgomery have clinched the inaugural Spar Division Two title in some style following their 5-1 win at Talgarth this weekend.

A hat-trick from the outstanding Gaz Bromley and further goals for Mike Cockram and Stuart Buckley-Robins secured the crown with games to spare and they can now look forward to a homecoming on Wednesday night when the trophy will be presented.

And while Monty were cruising to glory in Radnorshire, Llanrhaeadr were turning up the heat at the top of Division One with a 4-1 win at Builth Wells.

The victory brings them to within four points of long time leaders Berriew who play their final match of the season against Newbridge tomorrow (Monday). Llanrhaeadr are now red hot favourites with three games in hand.

Waterloo Rovers suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Llanidloes and LLansantffraid Village returned to winning ways with a 4-2 verdict at Bow Street. Third placed Carno drew 1-1 at Tywyn Bryncrug.

Back in Division Two, Abermule’s decent end of season run continued with a 4-1 win at bottom club Meifod.

Either Llanrhaeadr or Berriew will go up next season from Division One to the Huws Gray Alliance with Rhayader and Technogroup Welshpool going the other way. Presteigne are the only side to be relegated at the moment, pending an inspection of Tregaron’s facilities next week.

Caersws should be strong advocates for summer football given their incredible end of season run.

The Bluebirds clinched fifth spot after a 1-0 victory over Porthmadog with a Gareth Sudlow goal after 14 minutes doing the damage.

Meanwhile, Guilsfield rested several players ahead of their League Cup final next week but went down 2-0 at home to Llangefni Town. Both goals came in the second half.
