Spar title bid hits the road

29/04/2011 @ 05:30

The chase for the Spar Division One title hits the road this weekend when Llanrhaeadr travel to Builth Wells on Saturday and Aberystwyth University on Monday.

The North Montgomeryshire side closed the gap on Berriew to seven points this week with four games in hand and could finish the long weekend just four points behind the leaders who close their campaign at Newbridge on Monday.

Also in Division One, Carno look to cement their third place at Tywyn Bryncrug while fading Llanidloes Town go to Waterloo Rovers. Llansantffraid Village travel to Bow Street.

In Division Two, Montgomery will look to wrap up the title when they go to Talgarth, and the only team that can catch them, Rhosgoch, entertain Bont. Meifod take on Abermule.

Huws Gray Alliance

Guilsfield and Caersws end their frustrating league seasons on Saturday.

Guilsfield are guaranteed a fourth from bottom finish and the overnight news that champions Connah’s Quay Nomads have failed in their bid to gain promotion due to not meeting criteria sent the statisticians back to their note books.

But manager Russell Cadwallader is confident that despite the uncertainty over how many go down, Guilsfield will be safe courtesy of Bala meeting the criteria and retaining their Welsh Premier status.

They take on Llangefni with players looking to impress the boss for a place in next Saturday’s League Cup final.

Caersws, meanwhile, will wish the season continued through the summer after a tremendous finish to the season.

The curtain comes down on their season at Porthmadog and a win could see them finish fifth should Llandudno lose.

Amateur League

The highlight of the Amateur League action will focus on the final of the Tanners Town Cup at Berriew (6pm) when Technogroup Welshpool Reserves go toe to toe with Llanidloes Town Reserves.
