Former Manchester United youngster Matty Williams has joined Newtown from fellow Welsh Premier League side Llandudno with Jake Mann also stepping up from the Under-19s.

Williams has an impressive CV which saw his football career begin at Manchester United in 1999 at the age of 16 and stayed with the reds for five years.

In 2004, Williams moved to Notts County and would go on to make 26 appearances and score a single goal for the oldest football club in the world.

Tamworth then followed including a loan spell at Burton Albion in 2008 before his Welsh football adventures began at Rhyl in 2008. Williams would stay with the Lilywhites for a couple of years after being featured in 57 matches and finding the net 29 times before a transfer to The New Saints.

His six year spell at TNS would see Williams go on to experience UEFA Champions League football as well as winning a number trophies including the Welsh Premier League, the Welsh Cup and the League Cup.

In 2016, Williams left TNS for rival league side Connah’s Quay which would only last a year and then go and play for Llandudno from 2017.

Newtown manager Chris Hughes is also looking forward to the new arrival of Jake Mann who has impressed in the development team at the Robins and has also been featuring for Welshpool Town in Mid Wales League.

Hughes said: “Jake Mann has done really well for the Under-19s, Jake is a very good young player and it is important to have Under-19s players see that if you do well then there is a pathway to the first team like Jake and Will Evans.

“So there is an opportunity to progress so that’s important.”
