Newtown have handed themselves a huge boost as the first phase of the Welsh Premier enters its final matches over the Christmas period.
Saturday night’s 3-1 win cements their position in the top six, and it came in a determined performance over a Llandudno side fighting for their league survival.
Steve Leslie slotted the Robins ahead from the penalty spot, before Llandudno equalised. But it was all Newtown’s in the second half with Neil Mitchell and Callum Roberts netting to secure the points. The win moved Newtown into fourth place.
Montgomery are heading for a great Christmas after storming to the top of the MMP Mid Wales League Division Two.
With weather wiping out their main rivals’ fixtures, Montgomery took advantage with a 2-0 win over Abermule to move three points clear.
In one of only two top flight games in the Mid Wales League, Carno and Llansantffraid shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw.
It was a day to forget for the local sides in the Huws Gray Alliance as both Guilsfield and Llanrhaeadr suffered defeats to fall into the bottom half of the table.
