Newtown lost in front of the S4C cameras on Saturday night, with Barry Town taking advantage of Craig Williams being sent off to finish 4-1 winners in the JD Welsh Premier.
Steve Leslie had brought Newtown back into the game on the hour at 2-1, but when Williams saw red in the 79th minute when the score was 3-1, any hopes of a comeback were lost.
Guilsfield returned to sizzling form with a 3-0 win over high flying Flint Town United to move up to seventh in the Huws Gray Alliance.
After a tight first half, Guilsfield took the lead in the 52nd minute through Stuart Rogers, and then two goals in two minutes from George Clifton and a wonder strike from Adam Jenkins 10 minutes from time secured the points.
The Guils leapfrogged Llanrhaeadr in the table who returned from lowly Prestatyn empty handed after a 5-2 defeat.
Montgomery Town recorded the result of the round in beating Division One’s Llanfair United 3-2 in the second round of the MMP League Cup.
The second division promotion chasers came from behind twice at Llanfair to clinch the winner in the 62nd minute. There were also Cup wins for Welshpool Town, Caersws, Carno and Llanidloes.
In the league, division one title outsiders Radnor Valley and Berriew shared six goals, while both Waterloo Rovers and Four Crosses boosted their promotion bids with comfortable wins.
