Robins edge closer to survival

23/04/2011 @ 06:15

Newtown 1 Aberystwyth 0
Newtown moved to within touching distance of Welsh Premier League survival with a nerve twitching win over Aberytsywth.
The ever impressive Robbie Millington struck the only goal on 23 minutes, beating the Seasiders' offside trap and calmly picking his spot.
Newtown totally dominated the first half and should have gone in at least three goals to the good with Steve Jones the main culprit squandering three scoring opportunties.
But it was different after the break with Aberystwyth switching to a more attacking formation and pressing for an equaliser.
Craig Williams missed a great chance to stop his former club and substitute Stef Edwards shot wide after a mix up in the home defence.
Paul Keddle had Newtown's best chance ending a sweeping move by seeing his shot brilliantly saved by Steve Cann.
And a draw looked likely when Mike Jackson fouled Lewis Cody in the box only for Dave Roberts to pull off a stunning save to deny Ricky Evans on 78 minutes from the penalty spot.
Bala need to beat Carmarrhen tomorrow to keep their survival hopes alive otherwise they will join Haverfordwest in being releagted.
Newtown: D.Roberts, L.Hartshorn, S.Sutton, M.Jackson, A.Worton, D.Blain, P.Keddle, S.Bailey(Z.Evans), M.Cook,S.Jones(C.Whitfield), R.Millington(J.Price).
