Robins hold league leaders

Newtown cemented their top six spot on Wednesday night with another fine performance in holding Welsh Premier leaders Connah’s Quay Nomads to a 1-1 draw.

The Nomads went ahead early on through Declan Poole, but Nick Rushton found the top corner from the penalty spot just after the hour to ensure Newtown remain unbeaten at home this season.

With the visitors reduced to 10 men after an off-the-ball incident soon after the equaliser, the Robins pushed for the full three points and even had a late goal disallowed.

But it was another safe point for Newtown, and one that sees them three points clear of Caernarfon in seventh, and just five points off Nomads at the top.
