Llanrhaeadr remain in title pursuit

Llanrhaeadr have been reinstalled as favourites for the Spar Division One title despite Berriew winning again last night to stay 10 points clear.

Berriew, who have been top for most of the season, overcame a stern Dyffryn Banw challenge to win 2-1 last night, but the title’s destination is now firmly in the hands of Llanrhaeadr.

Many expected the villagers’ aging and threadbare squad to fall away as the games came thick and fast, but a 2-1 verdict over Waterloo Rovers last night kept them firmly in touch. With five games in hand, it is still anyone’s guess but they have hung on in there and few will be ruling them out now.

Meanwhile, Carno’s slim chances of the title remain alive after a 2-0 win at Llansantffraid Village.

In Division Two, Montgomery are finally up after hitting Four Crosses for six, while Abermule are finishing the season with a flourish after beating Rhosgoch 1-0 for a place in the E R Jenkins Division Two League Cup final.
