Newtown in seven-heaven

10/11/2018 @ 11:26

Newtown went goal-crazy on Saturday, putting seven past bottom club Llanelli to cement their place at the top end of the table.

Neil Mitchell put the Robins ahead after just eight minutes, and goals from Luke Boundford (2) and Nick Rushton (2) put them 5-0 up at the break. Second half strikes from Steve Leslie and Ben Bailey completed the rout.

On a day of thrilling action in the Welsh Cup, only Guilsfield have made their way through from the local clubs involved on Saturday.

Guilsfield came back from behind twice to beat Nantlle Vale 4-3, with a Jack Harris penalty in added time sending them through.

But it wasn’t to be for Caersws, Berriew and Llanfair United who all lost to Huws Gray Alliance opposition despite putting in credible performances.

In the MMP Mid Wales League, Will Thomas kept his outstanding form going with four goals as Welshpool Town beat Kerry 5-2. Llanidloes dropped points at home to Llandrindod Wells while the shock of the day saw title chasing Radnor Valley beaten 3-2 at home by Bow Street.

In the second division, Waterloo Rovers boosted their promotion hopes with a 2-1 win over Montgomery Town.
