Season enters home straight

The Spar Mid Wales League has been a revelation this season and there is still plenty to play for as the season enters its home straight.

While Berriew, Llanrhaeadr and Llanidloes still have the small matter of a league title to sort out in the top flight, Montgomery can take a giant step towards clinching the maiden Division Two crown this weekend.

A seven-goal midweek mauling of Llanfyllin proved they have just got better as the season goes on and tomorrow they can take a tighter grip of the trophy when fellow promotion chasers Tregaron are in town. The only other team who can catch them, Rhosgoch, take on Four Crosses.

Also in Division Two, Abermule will look to build on last week’s derby defeat of Kerry when they travel to Bont, while their neighbours host Talgarth. Meifod go to Llandrindod Wells.

Meanwhile, in the top flight, Berriew travel to Penparcau at the same time as Llanrhaeadr travel west to Dolgellau. Llanidloes, who slipped up in midweek, travel to Bow Street. Elsewhere, in-form Carno, who can still mathematically win the league, entertain Tywyn Bryncrug, Llansantffraid Village take on Presteigne and Dyffryn Banw host Builth Wells.

In the Huws Gray Alliance, the league’s form sides in the run in have been Guilsfield and Ruthin who meet on Saturday.

Young striker Adam Jenkins, who has impressed since his late season switch north from the village, will look to inflict damage on his former club who picked up their third win in a row in midweek over Technogroup Welshpool.

Chris Herbert’s Welshpool go to Rhos Aelwyd with their relegation fate already sealed while Caersws entertain the mighty Rhyl who are close to clinching the league title.
