Newtown have appointed Bernie Jones as the new joint coach of the Under 19 side.

Jones, who has vast experience within Mid Wales football will join up with Craig Williams and Neil Mitchell to take charge of the new Robins youngsters.

Jones, who retired as a PE teacher at Welshpool High School earlier this year, has been part of the backroom team with Huws Gray Alliance side Guilsfield for many years.

He is currently assistant manager to Nathan Leonard at the Guils, and will couple that role with his new position in the Under 19’s dugout.

Williams was delighted to have someone of Jones’ experience joining the coach team, and believes both himself and the players can learn from him.

He said: “It is great to have someone of Bernie’s experience joining us at Newtown academy.

“I’m looking to learn off him as I’m working alongside him.

“The players and coaches will benefit from him being around due to his football expertise and knowledge of the game as well.

“We’re both looking forward to working with him and hopefully having a good season with the under 19s.”
