New opportunity for young footballers

 

The Newtown Academy has teamed up the Mid & North Powys Development Centre to invite youngsters from across the area to attend an open day on May 8 at 3pm.

 

Academy football is for players aged between 11 and 18 years playing at Under 12 (Year 7s), Under 14 (Year 9s), Under 16 (Year 11s) and on to Under 19s for Years 12 and 13 school pupils.

 

Football Development Officer Tim Broome said: “The partnership between Newtown Academy and the Mid & North Powys Development Centre provides an exit route for the talented players in the league to participate in additional coaching and play regular fixtures against other academy teams.  Players can still play for their junior league clubs.

 

The Academy set up is one of a key conditions for clubs playing in the Welsh Premier and Newtown is currently Montgomeryshire’s only representative in the top flight.
