Robins lose league opener

Newtown missed a penalty and went on to miss out on the points in tonight’s opening Welsh Premier League game against Cardiff Met.

There was a great chance for the Robins to take an early lead after Neil Mitchell  was wiped out Nick Rushton to see his spot kick saved by Met keeper Alex Lang.

And as so often happens the students broke away with Evans netting the first goal of the 2018/19 season,

And before the interval Rees crossed from the left and Spencer drifted in at the back post to meet it and fire home to double the hosts lead.

Newtown hit back after break with Joe Kenton netting after a Jay Denny effort was saved by Lang but it proved too little t late as the students held on to win 2-1.
