Newtown manager Chris Hughes has added two new signings ahead of the 2018/19 Welsh Premier League season.

Former Wales youth and Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Sam Phillips (pictured bottom) has become the latest signing at Latham Park. The 19-year-old from Churchstoke has spent the last month training with the Robins, and impressed with a brace in last week’s 6-0 friendly win over Llanfair United.

He has most recently been playing in the Swedish second division and can operate out wide or down the middle.

Phillips’ 10 year association with Wolves came to an end last summer, and he then moved to Midlands Premier League outfit Haughmond. Phillips has also represented his country and was among the first Wales Under 16 side to lift the Victory Shield in almost 60 years back in 2014. He will wear the number 17 shirt for the Robins.

Hughes has also snapped up Hednesford Town defender Ben Bailey (pictured bottom), who has also figured for Telford. Bailey made around 300 performances for Hednesford in two spells with the club.

Both are expected to figure against Denbigh on Satuday (kick-off 1pm).
