Another Welsh gold for Maddie

Maldwyn Harriers youngster Maddie Griffiths is the toast of Montgomeryshire after powering her way to gold in the U13 1500m at the Welsh Athletics Junior Championships.

The 12-year-old ran the perfect race, pulling clear of the pack after the second lap before opening up her lead to come home in a personal best time of five minutes nine seconds.

It is turning into quite a year for Maddie (pictured) who won the Year 7 race at the Welsh Schools National Cross Country Championships in March.

But she wasn’t alone on the medals podium at the weekend, with her teammates also putting in some fantastic performances.

Callum Morgan finished second in the U13 Boys 1500m; Carwyn Owen took third in the U17 Boys 800m; Cai Burr was third in the U20 Boys Shot Putt, and Callum Sherlock took third in the U17/U20 Boys 3k Walk.
