Newtown picked up a vital Shropshire Premier League victory, but are still propping up the table. 

After being put into bat, Newtown reached 188 all out with opener Matt Knight (37) and Tom Foulkes (35) top scoring.

The bowlers then took control with Tom Anderson, Dave Anthony and Ally Laird all taking three wickets each as Newtown secured 20 crucial points by bowling their visitors out for 147.

Welshpool’sbowlers came to their batsmen’s aid by whittling Forton out for just 100.

After setting just 139, with opener Nick Davies top scoring on 38, Welshpool bowlers Robert Anderson (4-34) and Greg Jones (3-34) blitzed their hosts to see them home for a welcome Division One win.

There were winning points for promotion chasing Montgomeryin Division Two after setting 204 for Willey to chase.

In-form Ieuan Griffiths top scored with 46, while opening batsman Thomas Corfield (32) and Aaron Ruff-Cock (38) also showed decent form. In reply, Willey were restricted to 186-7 off their 40 overs. Ruff-Cock starred with the leather, taking 3-21.

Guilsfieldbowled themselves into a strong position by restricting Oswestry III to 130 in Division Four with Sam Griffiths (4-19) mopping up the tail. Dave Court took 3-22.

But the dogged hosts fought back with early breakthroughs to eventually bowl the title chasing villagers out for 117.

Llanidloescemented their mid-table position with a victory at Harcourt after making 155-6, before restricting their hosts to 131 all out.

In the reserve divisions,Montgomery II’s batting woes continued when they were all out for 79 chasing 150-7 against Frankton II. Keith Griffiths (3-32) did his bit with the ball, but the batsmen struggled.

Newtown IIkept the pressure on at the top with a dramatic two-wicket win at Allscott II after hunting down the host’s 182. Aaron Knight (62) and Richard Smout (46) starred with the bat.

Welshpool IIset 142-8 at home to Condover II who eased to victory for the loss of two wickets.
