Griffiths in top form

There are few batsmen hitting the sort of form that Guilsfield’s Sam Griffiths is in after the opener smashed his side to victory in the Shropshire Cricket League Division Four.

Griffiths, with a century already under his belt this term, hit an unbeaten 82 with his side chasing Beacon’s 132-7. They did it for the loss of just one wicket.

In the same league, Llanidloes were dismissed for just 93 by Bridgnorth who only lost three wickets in reply.

In Division One, Welshpool again found runs hard to come by after setting a meagre 129 for Wroxeter and Uppington to chase. Only Patrick Davies (30) and Russell Cadwallader (27) made any headway as the visitors eventually made it home for the loss of seven wickets.

Thomas Corfield celebrated his birthday in style by scoring his first half century for Montgomery in Division Two.

Corfield was promoted to the first team at the start of the season on the back of almost 2,000 runs for the seconds and scored his first 50 in a winning draw against Church Aston.

The opening batsman, who celebrated his 23rd birthday Monday, was caught out for 52 as Montgomery set the visitors a total of 188-9.

Ieuan Griffiths scored 33 and captain Sam Williams posted 25 to boost the total.

In reply, Church Aston ended 151-9 as Montgomery fell agonisingly short of taking the final wicket that would have secured them maximum points instead of the 15 for a winning draw.

Young debutant Lennon Brian took 3-37 runs and Aaron Ruff-Cock took 3-58.

In the Reserve Divisions, John Anthony hit a mid-order 62 to bolster Newtown II towards a decent score of 147-9, which they were able to defend after Broseley were whittled out for just 74.
