Newtown Men's Hockey Club have taken the North Wales Hockey Shield after a nail-biting extra-time match against Colwyn Bay at Wrexham, winning 4-3.

Colwyn Bay dominated the first ten minutes and took a one goal lead as both sides came to terms with the bouncy water based pitch. Jonny Atkinson equalised for Newtown with a reverse stick shot after several re-bounds from a short corner. Colwyn bay pressed Newtown back and took a 3-1 lead in to half time. Newtown dominated the second half with Andy Denham scoring the second goal from a short corner. After several other missed chances and hitting the opposition post, time was running out for Newtown when a short corner was awarded with less than two minutes remaining. Andy Denham drag flicked the equaliser to take the match into extra time.

Extra time consisted of 10 minutes each way. Newtown continued to press in the first half but were unable to make the pressure count. The second half of extra time continued with Newtown pressing for a winning goal when a cross found Samm Williams in the D, who promptly lashed it high into back of the net.  Newtown saw out the last few minutes with some pressure from Colwyn bay  including a reverse stick deflection away from goal by Nick Bradley in a last short corner for Colwyn Bay.
