Newtown will bid for a place in the final of the JD Welsh Cup on Sunday when they take on Mid Wales rivals Aberystwyth Town at Bala.
The Seasiders have the edge on recent face-to-face form, winning the last two fixtures between the two, but Newtown will go into the match as favourites courtesy of a strong second half to the season in the JD Welsh Premier.
Manager Chris Hughes has called on the Latham Park faithful to become their 12th man against an Aberystwyth side that is sitting a place above the relegation zone.
The other semi-final features two sides from the top half of the league – with Bangor City taking on Connah’s Quay Nomads.
Meanwhile, the weather has been the winner this season as local clubs’ patience, and enthusiasm, has been tested like never before.
This has certainly been the case for Guilsfield who will try to play their Huws Gray Cup match at Holyhead this weekend for fifth time after postponements. Caersws entertain Holywell in the league.
But the weather has impacted every club, with many amateur league sides playing less than 10 games since October and being expected to play just as many games during April alone. This has led to many clubs calling for the FAW to invest in grass roots facilities like better drainage and access to 3G pitches.
Meanwhile, in the Spar League, leaders Welshpool Town are in Cup action along with Llanfair United, Carno and Berriew.
But the big match of the weekend takes place on Sunday when Newtown face Aberystwyth Town in the semi-final of the JD Welsh Cup.
